A new year often means a fresh start - and maybe even a fresh wardrobe - so we wanted to help you clean out your closet a bit and update some essentials.
Unless you are a stickler to the One In, One Out rule, your closet may feel cluttered and overwhelming come January. Although we suggest sorting through your clothes seasonally, January is a great time to do an overhaul, especially since consignment stores and clothing resale shops are still buying for winter through mid-February.
There are a couple of guidelines to remember when doing a closet clean out. If you haven't worn a piece in over a year, it's too big or too small, has irreparable damage, or it holds no emotional value (which would warrant storage) then it should be thrown into one of three piles: Sell, Donate, Alter.
We picked a few of our favorite new arrivals for Spring, to fill in a bit of what will get taken out. You can never go wrong with a pair of skinny jeans, a light-weight white shirt, a cashmere poncho and a chambray shirt. All essential, season-less and timeless pieces.
