Designer to Know: Leslie Paige Jewelry

Designer to Know: Leslie Paige Jewelry

Leslie Paige McElroy has always been a creative type. From working as a pastry chef to launching her own jewelry line — McElroy brings passion and craftsmanship to the table no matter the project. And with our Leslie Paige Jewelry trunk show coming up this weekend, we sat down to find out just what makes this up-and-coming designer tick.

Leslie Paige McElroy

1. How did you become involved in jewelry design?

I had been a pastry chef for the majority of my career and I wanted to make a change. I wanted to create something more permanent. It would take me three days to make a wedding cake that would be eaten in a matter of minutes. I also had this idea for what I call the perched setting. I wanted something like it for myself, so after searching for weeks, I decided to have it made. As I began to wear my design, others began wanting it for themselves. This prompted me to design new variations and other items.

2. Where do you find inspiration?

Most of my designs come from my own desire to have a piece. With the perched setting I was trying to find a way to showcase the back of the stone as well as the front. I have always liked the back of stones and wanted to show how the back can be just as beautiful as the front.

3. Can you describe your design process?

I usually start by sitting down with my caster and working on how to best produce a design so that it is a strong, quality and comfortable piece. Next I choose the stones. I look for stones with color or shape that make them stand out.

4. What is your favorite part of the design process?

Seeing the finished piece. I love seeing how this idea in my head comes together and how people respond to it.

6. What is your favorite material to work with?

When you work in the culinary industry you quickly learn that if you start with the best possible ingredients then you will get the best possible finished product. I find this to be true with jewelry. I use only solid gold, natural diamonds and natural gemstones.

7. What was it like being featured in British Vogue

It’s great getting the international exposure and hearing from people around the world who love my designs!

8. Goals for the future?

My goal is to grow the Leslie Paige Jewelry brand while continuing to expand on the unique statement designs. Coming soon: cuff bracelets and men’s puzzle rings.

Thank you Leslie! We can't wait to have you in store this Friday and Saturday. To check out more designs by Leslie Paige Jewelry, click here.

Color Blocking

Color Blocking

Bright summer hues make the perfect statement pieces, but why not take your colorful look a step further? This season we dare you to play with bright hues and try color blocking!

Color blocking can be a daunting task, but fear not! These simple steps make creating colorful looks as easy as pie:

1. Choose a dominant piece. The yellow scuba coat in this look is obviously the crowd-pleaser. None of the other colors outshine it.

2. Pick colors that contrast. If you look at a color wheel, colors that contrast are at opposite points of the wheel. For instance, the cool blue of this Harlow top perfectly contrasts against the warmth of the yellow coat.

3. Don’t mix in too many hues. By sticking to only two or three colors, each one can speak for itself without being lost.

4. Tie it all together. Pick a few pieces whose colors are exactly the same. For instance, the black of the handbag and trousers in this look create a sense of continuity in the outfit.

And there you have it! A quick and easy guide to creating a color block outfit that is both fun and sophisticated. Have fun mixing!

Current in Camo

Current in Camo

Camouflage is getting a major update this season and we couldn’t be more happy about it. Gone are the days when wearing camo meant blending into the background. This summer, brands are reinventing the pattern with a softer touch; incorporating it into more understated and feminine pieces.

Memorial Day Midi

Memorial Day Midi

A week of sunshine has never been more welcome or needed here in Portland.  After a long, cold, wet winter and disappointing start to spring, a few days of 75 and sunny is just what the doctor ordered.  Unfortunately, our phones can't tell us exactly what's happening over the holiday weekend, so it's best to be prepared.  Rather than risk freezing your tail off in a sundress and sandals or wilting in jeans and a jacket, we thought we'd combine the best of both looks for an easy and casual Memorial Day look.

From L to R: ALC Sandra Dress, Vince Military jacket, shay white gold and diamond choker & Jack gomme leather tote.

Start with a breezy midi dress that can stand on it's own - this is a great time of year to snag a couple of versatile dresses (hello, wedding season) that can be worn day to evening - then trade your sandals for a pair of white sneakers to keep your look fresh and comfy.  Throw a military jacket over your shoulders to keep you warm into the evening and add a choker (that's on sale!) for a touch of glam. Finish it all with a light weight leather tote bag so you can bring along your BBQ essentials (a bottle of rosé and your favorite sunnies of course).

Designer to Know: Joseph

Beginning his career as a hairdresser, London based retailer Joseph Ettedgui rose to fame by curating and introducing up-and-coming designers to the world. Having launched his own line, Joseph now features elevated basics that are the backbone of any well-edited wardrobe.

Below are a few of Joseph’s high quality classics. A pale pink shell is perfect for layering or wearing alone. Here, we’ve paired it with a navy blue Herno coat that adds just the right amount of warmth for spring. The brand is also known for its twill leggings — they feel like a legging but look as good a tailored pant — available in nearly every color of the rainbow, we're always partial to a good grey.
