Designer to Know: Joseph

Designer to Know: Joseph

Beginning his career as a hairdresser, London based retailer Joseph Ettedgui rose to fame by curating and introducing up-and-coming designers to the world. Having launched his own line, Joseph now features elevated basics that are the backbone of any well-edited wardrobe.

Below are a few of Joseph’s high quality classics. A pale pink shell is perfect for layering or wearing alone. Here, we’ve paired it with a navy blue Herno coat that adds just the right amount of warmth for spring. The brand is also known for its twill leggings — they feel like a legging but look as good a tailored pant — available in nearly every color of the rainbow, we're always partial to a good grey.

FROM L TO R: ANNABEL INGALL LARGE ISABELLA TOTE, RENE ESCOBAR DIAMOND & STERLING SILVER BANGLE BRACELET, JOSEPH COTTON LYOCELL STRETCH TANK, HERNO THREE-QUARTERS SLEEVE ZIPPED JACKET AND JOSEPH GABARDINE STRETCH LEGGING.

2017 Wardrobe Detox

2017 Wardrobe Detox

We made it to January. Phew! 2016 has certainly been a whirlwind, which makes the fresh start of a new year even more inviting.

As we do every year, January is time for our annual closet overhaul.  We're far enough into the winter season to know what we'll be wearing till the weather warms up, and have enough distance from Spring and Summer to know what we don't want or need anymore.

There are easy rules to follow when deciding what to toss and what to keep that will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed or making any decisions you might regret (we're thinking of those special pieces we impulsively sold).

Quite simply, if you love it, don't toss it. Even if you haven't worn an item in years, place it in storage for safe keeping and move onto the next piece.  As for what to toss?  If you don't love it plus it doesn't fit or you haven't worn it in over a year or it's damaged beyond repair or outdated then you can do one of three things.  Repair/alter, sell or donate.

From L to R: Vince cotton sweater, Rag & Bone "Dre" jean, ATM stripe tee, Mother "Looker Crop" jean & Veronica Beard "Schoolboy" jacket.

We like to fill in a few key pieces after our detox, wardrobe essentials that we will wear and love: denim, a stripe tee, a year-round sweater and a timeless blazer.

Tailored Trench

Tailored Trench

A piece every woman should own in her closet is a classic trench.  It is the ultimate piece of outerwear that will take you from season to season and every phase of your life.  Think of the women who've made this piece iconic, Catherine Deneuve, Diane Keaton, Brigitte Bardot, Kate Moss and Audrey Hepburn to name a few.  We love the standard khaki, but can't help but get excited about a trench with a twist - whether it's the color, details or fabrication - sometimes a little change can make a piece totally new again.

From L to R: Rag & Bone floppy brim fedora, Frame "Le Stripe" shirt, Vince leather camera bag, Rag & Bone "Siggy" suede skirt, ALC trench coat, Frame "Le Crop Mini Boot" jean, T by Alexander Wang stripe tee, Vince convertible leather backpack.

You really don't have to worry what you pair your trench with (it goes with everything) throw it on over a dress or jeans and a tee, and you'll look sleek, polished and totally chic.

Summer Check List

Summer Check List

Despite the fluctuating weather patterns - from 100 degrees to chilly and rainy all in one week - summer is here. School's out, vacations have been planned, local strawberries are finally in season and we see more sunshine in the forecast.  It's a good time of year to check in on a few key pieces in your summer wardrobe and fill in what's missing.

As we all know in Portland, the days can remain cool until nearly 5 pm, so it's good to think about lightweight layers in cotton, denim and linen.  We also like sticking to a color palette, so you can mix and match easily and the clothes will fit seamlessly into your existing wardrobe.

From L to R: Rag & Bone straw wide brim fedora, Rag & Bone "Devon" scarf, Vince Park Collection convertible bucket bag, Majestic stripe linen tee, Paul Smith cotton skirt, Frame cotton lace tank dress, Current/Elliott "The Snap" denim jacket, Rag & Bone "Drape" tank, Current/Elliott "The Girlfriend" short, Vince lace tee and Frame "Le High Skinny" jean.

A few of our favorite summer essentials include a good sunhat, a striped linen tee, a couple breezy, cotton tops, a versatile sundress, and of course a pair of white jeans.  All pieces that can be mixed and matched and dressed up or down.

Happy Summer!
