Distressed Denim

Distressed Denim

These days, distressed denim can transition easily from day to evening and is certainly not limited to weekend wear.  We love dressing our denim up for brunch or date night (don't be afraid to rock yours after dark) and especially like the contrast of preppy white with frayed edges.

From R to L: Derek Lam 10 Crosby crop sweater, Mother Denim "Looker" high rise jeans, Rene Escobar oxidized sterling silver necklaces, Rag & Bone wide brim fedora & Max Mara "Hobo" leather bag.

Slim silhouettes and sophisticated washes paired with a graphic sweater and luxe accessories elevates this once exclusively casual wardrobe staple while keeping your look totally cool.

Safari Chic

Safari Chic

The most iconic trends can often be traced back to the visionary, Yves Saint Laurent.  From "Le Smoking" the first tuxedo for women, to the gypsy collection that inspired the boho trend of today all the way to safari chic.  His ability to think outside the box, and turn social norms on their head, lead fashion to where it is today.

In his honor, we've chosen a couple of our favorite safari inspired looks of the season.  We saw the trend all over the runways and now it's time to incorporate it into your wardrobe.  It can be preppy, glam as well as edgy, so whatever your style preference, it's an easy one to mix in.

From L to R: Max Mara laser cut leather tote bag, Love Heals wrap bracelet, Sara Weinstock 18K gold "Alexandria" earrings with diamonds and sapphires, Fabiana Filippi linen and suede vest, Closed "Starlet" jean, Vince striped cotton shirt, Rag & Bone floral print scarf, Sara Weinstock 18K gold and Oxidized sterling silver bangles, Shiraleah calf hair clutch, Closed suede pop-over & Current/Elliott "The Cuffed Skinny" jean

fashion month (so far)

fashion month (so far)

Milan fashion week is nearly over, with Paris around the corner, which means fashion month is winding down.  Our buyers have come and gone to market and the orders for Fall are finished.  Although it's month out, that doesn't mean we can't fantasize about what they chose and what to expect come early August.  It's really not that far away, you know.

With all of the designers we carry, it's hard to pick out one collection as our favorite, but we can certainly pick out favorite looks within each collection and do a little trend forecasting in the meantime.

The 70's vibes will continue into fall 2016, whether it's seen in flares - cropped or otherwise - flowing, floral printed midi dresses or super exaggerated collars.  Another trend that's here to stay, probably now and forever, is men's tailoring, seen in gorgeous outerwear and luxurious wool in nearly every silhouette you can imagine.

A newer trend that's popping up is a touch of glam, sequins, Lurex, you name it, seen especially, and surprising at Max Mara.  Classic military details - gold buttons, pea coats, trenches, epaulets and jodhpurs - have been seen in nearly every collection that walked down a runway.  And of course. it wouldn't be the fall/winter collections without some fur. Be it faux or real, accent collars or full length coats, the texture is everywhere and just screams winter, warmth and luxury.

It's fun to dream about the fall collections while the weather continues to stay cool.  But don't forget, spring is here in the store and those warm weather months are almost here!

Treat Yo' Self

Treat Yo' Self

We're getting in the spirit of Saint Valentine's Day here at Mercantile.  Shades of pink and red on the racks and all the candy hearts you could ask for.

We know it can be a loaded holiday for a lot of people - whether you're in a committed relationship, years long marriage or happily single - it can be both stressful and often times disappointing.  Rather than put your Valentine's gift in the hands of another person, we've picked out some rose hued items just for you.  That way, no matter what your relationship status, you'll be taken care of.  We believe in self-reliance after all.

Take your pick from the list below, grab yourself a bottle of bubs and you'll be all set for a relaxing, and of course stylish Saturday (fingers crossed for sunshine!).

From L to R: Paul Smith herringbone stripe scarf, ATM "Cozy" cashmere cardigan, Max Mara "Oblato" jacket, Shiraleah leopard clutch, Kismet by Milka double bar bangle with champagne diamonds, Max Mara "Palco" shirt, Majestic striped linen t-shirt.

Always remember, there's nothing better than to treat yourself!

Countdown to Christmas

Countdown to Christmas

It's the final days before Christmas - three sleeps till X-Mas Eve - and whether or not you've completed your shopping or are still scrambling for a few last minute bits and bobs, it's a hectic time for everyone.  We want to ease your stress a bit, so we've broken down the three essential outfits for the main event.

We like to go big for Christmas Eve, with a bold dress and gold accessories and of course don't forget your highest heels and a red lip.

Stay comfy while you watch the kids open presents, snack on breakfast and sip mimosas. We're thinking some super soft sweats, a tissue tee and a soft wool cardigan.

Keep the comfort level high but stay chic for Christmas dinner with your family.  Neutral colors and splashes of fringe will keep things festive.

From L to R: Equipment dress, Rene Escobar bangles, Max Mara purse, Theory shearling jacket, Hartford sweater, James Perse tee, Current/Elliott sweats, Vince silk top and suede leggings, Samira 13 earrings and bangles and Ashlyn'd lucite clutch.

We wish you a fun and festive holiday weekend filled with love, laughter, family and friends.
