Contemporary Corset

Contemporary Corset

Don't be alarmed, we're not talking about an actual corset here. We are talking about corseting details that have shown up all over the runways, especially for spring 2016.

It's been seen in the form of exaggerated princess seams on dresses and jackets, lacing up the sides of fitted leather jackets and darling dresses or even loose laces down the front of a rib knit sweater.  This trend can range from super feminine to boho and then all the way to classic tomboy (yes, we said tomboy), it just depends what pieces you choose and how you style them!

From L to R: Vince tailored leather jacket, Red Valentino dress, Sara Weinstock 18k gold and oxidized silver bangles, Ashlyn'd "Cosmo" lucite clutch, Derek Lam 10 Crosby lacing detail shirt, Rag & Bone/Jean "Paz" crop flare, Rene Escobar 14k gold and oxidized silver necklace and bangles, Rag & Bone stripe poncho, Annabel Ingall "Isabella" tote

Remember you don't need to interpret trends literally, add just a touch to any outfit to make it wearable and stylish.  We'd pair the dress with some strappy sandals for an edgy evening look and stick to classic loafer with the white shirt and crop flare jeans.

Laced Up

Laced Up

Lace is everywhere this season.  The delicate fabric is showing up in the most unexpected places, making it thoroughly modern and new.  Lace is no longer limited to bridal gowns, lingerie and after 5 PM, it's a day-to-evening fabrication that is versatile and fresh.

We're seeing delicate lace laid over double-face cashmere, floral patterns made out of vegan leather, point d'esprit in punk-rock, mini dresses and graphic, cotton eyelet inserted into crisp, white shirts.

From L to R: Max Mara "Zanzara" skirt, DVF "Cooper" cardigan, Rag & Bone "Charlotte" dress, RED Valentino eyelet skirt, Les Copains vegan leather lace skrit, Akris Punto eyelet top.

Have a little fun this holiday season and spice up your party ensemble with a little lace, whether it's an accent or a statement, it's sure to be chic.

Rebel Chic

Rebel Chic

It's a little bit punk, a little bit retro, a little bit menswear, a little bit glam, it's Rebel Chic. Channel your inner Teddy boy (or girl) and mix your favorite menswear inspired pieces with leather or fur accents and, of course, a red lip for the edgiest style of the season.

From L to R: Hartford France Versus Faux Fur Vest, Rag & Bone Ellen Double Layer Turtleneck, Theory Flannel Treeca Pant, Max Mara Marte Check Scarf, Samira 13 Pearl and Chain Bracelets, Rag & Bone Bradbury Mini Chain Cross-Body

We've put an unexpected twist on the trend by replacing black fur and leather with, the color of the season, midnight blue.  It takes the look to a  more sophisticated and elegant place while keeping the necessary edge.  If the tailored trousers aren't fulfilling your rocker needs, trade them out for a slick leather pencil skirt or stretch leather legging.  Pair this outfit with your favorite brogues for day or a sky high pump for evening.

When putting together your own version of the Rebel Chic trend, just ask yourself "What would Kate Moss wear?"

Trend Report - NY Fashion Week

Trend Report - NY Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is over and London Fashion Week is in full swing, which means our buyers just got back from NYC, where they were shopping the Spring 2016 collections.  While the rest of us are switching our closets from Summer to Fall and wondering where September went, a lucky few are already thinking ahead to next Spring.  We're happy to see that some of our favorite Fall trends are making an extended appearance into next season.

Leather - Leather is going to be around for a while.  We saw it cut in feminine silhouettes and paired with delicate lace details at RED Valentino as well as super luxe, yet totally sporty separates at ATM.  No matter your personal style, you'll be able to find a leather piece for spring that fits seamlessly into your wardrobe.

Menswear -  From sleek, tailored suits to lightweight blazers paired with oversized sweatshirts, the designers were pulling from their brother's closet for inspiration.  We love that the look can be streamlined for work or more formal events à la Theory's peplum blazer and cigarette trousers or kept downtown cool with distressed denim and a cotton tee as seen at Frame.

Sporty - We're excited to see that the athleisure styles are rolling over into Spring.  There's nothing better than looking super chic while wearing joggers (in leather no less) and a beautiful, not so plain, white tee.  Although the trend leans casual, the luxury fabrications seen on the runway certainly make it translate to after 5.

Bold Colors and Graphic Prints - From neon yellow tweed at Rag & Bone to dazzlingly graphic knit dresses in a rainbow of colors at M Missoni, spring is not lacking in color.  If a midi dress in a highlighter hue isn't your thing, you will find smaller pieces, from sweaters to cross-body bags, available in a rainbow of shades to get your color fix.

How to Wear - Culottes

How to Wear - Culottes

Culottes are back, in a big way.  Nearly every designer featured a pair or two on the runway including RED Valentino, Theory and Halston Heritage.

Before you roll your eyes and say this trend isn't for you, we've got three easy ways to wear them.

From Left to Right: Vince Reversible Shearling Vest, Current/Elliott Costa Shirt, Vince Culottes, Chan Luu Double Horn Necklace, Rag & Bone Grayson Back Pack.

From Left to Right: Max Mara Lettera Jacket, RED Valentino Scalloped Silk Top, Vince Culottes and Max Mara Leda Bag.

From Left to Right: Theory Melanis D Jacket, L'Agence Lee Wrap Top, Vince Culottes, Samira 13 Necklace, Kim White Metallic Ring Clutch.
